Timepiece is a 27-hour multilingual live time announcement, based on the BBC speaking clock, with diverse musical accompaniments from across the globe. It is a joint project and statement of solidarity for artists and others affected by the pandemic, involving over 130 musicians and speakers.

Performed on the revolving stage of the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, which rotates 360 ° every hour like the pointer of a gigantic clock, it marks the end of Central European Winter-Time – from the darkness of winter into the light!

Produced by Sophia Loizou, Bristol Re:Sound was a celebration of the city’s sound heritage, reinterpreted in an afternoon and evening of free creative workshops, installations and performances. Bristol’s symbiotic relationship with sound continues to evolve with the ever-changing and diverse makeup of the city’s inhabitants and the emergence of new creative technologies. Bristol Re:sound was a sonic exploration of that relationship.

The afternoon saw analogue tape composition and modular synthesis workshops, surround sound and sound system installations and city-wide sound walks. The evening offered a diverse range of short performances incorporating a variety of innovative techniques and technologies, including live VR & AV performances, live archival resampling and a Turntablism Ensemble. The evening closed in fitting style with celebrated Bristol-based DJ’s on the Terrace Bar overlooking the city.

Be Near Me is a multi-channel installation integrating voices, a string ensemble and the bells of St Thomas The Martyr's church, Bristol UK. Taking inspiration from Tennyson's 1849 poem In Memoriam, the piece explores fragmented sounds within the unique architecture of the site, using a spatial array of speakers to construct an immersive experience of disembodied voices and haunted transmissions.

The installation has been developed through research into re-amplified sound, considering the intangible and physical relationships between architecture, history and human experience.

Curated by Sophia Loizou, Bristol History of Sound was a daylong event focussing on Bristol’s diverse sound and music heritage. Consisting of a series of talks, discussions, workshops and screenings, the event featured an array of leading authors, academics and theorists. Bristol History of Sound offered a fresh perspective on the musical history of Bristol including the effect of migrant populations on the development of new music in the city, the exploration of local sound archives, technologies and the many great musicians that have helped to give Bristol its reputation as a leading city of sound in the UK.

Bristol History of Sound was part of an 18-month collaboration between the BIMM Institute Bristol, Bristol Music Trust and Heritage Lottery Fund.
